The OGAE Australia Eurovision Top 100
The inaugural OGAE Australia Eurovision Top 100 was a great success, as we counted down Australia's favourite Eurovision songs of all time, live on JOY 94.9 - Australia's only gay & lesbian radio station. After a gruelling six week voting process from OGAE Australia members, and casual fans of Eurovision, 127 votes were received (each with 10 songs for 2 points each, and 10 songs for 1 point each), creating our ultimate list of Eurovision classics.
Monday the 28th January 2019 started off like any other day, until midday hit, and the countdown began. The day overall was massive. Almost 3,000 tweets from listeners all around the world showed just how exciting this event was - no doubt a highlight in the history of OGAE Australia. And can we say, it was a nice "revenge" for that side of the world having to wake up for us. Ha ha!
The amazing crew from JOY's BABBLE POP - Michael, Líam and Io - guided the inexperienced members from OGAE Australia - Laura, Danie, Fleur, Brent and Christopher - through seven hours (!!!) of Eurovision magic. It was an impressive show that had the international fans of Eurovision all focused down under. We may not be part of Europe, but no one can deny our place in Eurovision.
And just when you thought the day couldn't get any more special, along came Leea Nanos, one of ten artists performing at the very first Australia Decides on the Gold Coast. Leea came into the studio as an OGAE Australia super-fan, that we kinda had to explain, was supposed to be the other way around. We were potentially sitting next to our next Australian representative in Tel Aviv!
But it was all about the countdown, and one by one, the classics fell, until we reached the Top Ten. It kicked off with an Aussie, just as it should, as Guy Sebastian began what would be our favourite ten Eurovision songs of all time. Then came Verka, Conchita, Poli, Sergey and Eleni, with their undeniable Eurovision classics. Australia proved they love their Swedes, and three of the TEN Swedish songs to make the list (the most of any country) came in at #4, #3 and #2! Måns, ABBA and Loreen lead us to the first ever, OGAE Australia Eurovision Top 100 Number 1 song - and, of course, it was one of our own. Dami Im took the crown like the Eurovision queen she is. However, it was tight! Loreen and Dami had been swapping places at the top all through the voting, and with just a 7 point margin, this was still anyone's game.
So, there you have it. OGAE Australia now has a Eurovision Top 100 list we can call our own. In fact, we have an extended Top 200 below that will have everyone studying for months to come...

Ha ha…3 times!!! that’s great. We will definitely be running it again next January 2020, and hopefully JOY will on board with us again (I don’t thing anything was destroyed by the club in the studio…ha ha).
