SARA MALIHI (QLD) – ORDINARY COMMITTEE MEMBER
My earliest memory of Eurovision was 1984 being captivated by the Herreys brothers from Sweden and their winning song Diggi -Loo Digg-Ley and as a 10 year old all I wanted was a pair of golden boots. Growing up watching SBS in our migrant household became the norm and I would search the TV Week to make sure we never missed the spectacle. Eurovision is something I used to share with my family and tight knit close friends. I mean interwoven friends because let's be real, we are a secret society who endure eye rolls, giggles and jokes when we talk ESC to others. However thanks to Australia’s involvement and sending some seriously great talent, music and productions to the world stage, the eye rolls have lessened, and the recognition and awareness of the contest is growing, and now I am telling everyone I know about the power of coming together in music and creativity.
My absolute favourite GOAT song is Euphoria – I hear it daily. It is my alarm, my ugly cry, my joy and gets me revved for any situation. I also love anything Italy sends – literally (say that slowly) anything they send. My life goal is to attend a live show and watch a turquoise carpet – please manifest that one with me.
Currently, I live on the Gold Coast and love my Dachshunds, gardens and cooking whilst professionally I work in finance. I am so thrilled that a position has opened up and I can’t wait to meet more fans. I am proud and honoured to serve on a committee dedicated to providing a fun safe and inclusive space and cannot wait to build our supporter numbers.
