Junior Eurovision 2021 Review - Armenia: Maléna Qami Qami

The Artist

14 year old Maléna from Yerevan will be representing Armenia at Junior Eurovision this year. She was set to represent her country last year with her song Why but due to the ongoing war with Azerbaijan over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia withdrew from the contest.

Maléna is not only a songwriter but also plays the cello, and took part in the selection for JESC back in 2018.

The Song

Qami Qami is a pure dance bop with excellent vocals and is about being free and letting the ‘wind carry you’ as you find yourself. It is mostly in Armenian with a light touch of English.

The song is written by Vahram Petrosyan (Armenia singer),  tokionine (wrote Walking Out for Srbuk ESC 2019, and took part in Depi Evratesil 2020 with Save Me),  David Tserunyan (head of Armenian delegation and Masked Singer Armenia producer) and Maléna herself.

Qami Qami is now available on YouTube and Spotify playlists.

Armenia at JESC

This will be Armenia’s 14th go at Junior Eurovision after their debut in 2007. They won in 2010 with Vladimir Arzumanyan’s Mama. They have also recorded 4 second placings in the history at the contest.

Like I get why other people love this song, but it’s just far too mainstream and far too adult contest for me. It’s a strong song, don’t get me wrong, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it does extremely well, but it’s in the wrong contest.

I knew this was the winner after the first note, Malena's vocal is flawless and then when you pair it with the fresh and modern production it's just pop perfection. It's the bop of the century and I'm just completely blown away by it.

I have finally given a 10! This is an utterly marvellous dance track that sits at a different level to the rest of the JESC 2021 field.

Kurtis: 10/10 ✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭✭

Within 10 seconds of hearing the song, I knew this was the winner of Junior Eurovision 2021. This song is unique, mature and alternative. It is encapsulating and stirs emotions. I am just blown away.

WHAT THE HECK! FINALLY! A GOOD SONG OMG!!! This seriously sounds good and not like some popy kids song. I REALLY like it! It reminds me a lot of Tick Tock - Croatia ESC 2021, with the purple lighting and glitter. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

Average Score: 9.2
