Junior Eurovision 2021 Review - Russia: Tanya Mezhentseva Mon Ami

The Artist
11 year old Tanya Mezhentseva is back representing Russia again, this time as a soloist. She represented her country back in 2019, but then she sung a duet with Denberel Oorzhak called A Time For Us which came 13th. She won the Russian National Final to earn the right to be the Russian representative in Paris.

When not singing Tanya, (also known as Tatyana), enjoys gymnastics, dancing and plays the piano.

The Song

Mon Ami is an upbeat song about no one stopping you from being happy. The song is in a mix of Russian and English and was written by Danu Boyan, Dmitriy Korochin, and Tanya herself.

Mon Ami is available on our YouTube and Spotify playlists.

Russia at JESC

2021 will be Russia’s 17th participation at JESC since their debut in 2005. They have won the contest twice in 2006 and 2017: Tolmachevy Twins with Vesenniy jazz (who went on to ESC in 2014), and Wings by Polina Bogusevich.

Firstly, welcome back Tatyana! This is such a summer bop, and one that Tatyana really gets to shine in, which is something she didn’t really get to do two years ago. This is one of the fans favourites for a reason, and rightfully so.

Well this is a welcome return, I loved Tatyana in 2019 but always thought she'd do an up tempo song really well too and I was right. Mon Ami is like the JESC version of Fuego and that's saying a lot. A great ethnic bop!

Welcome back Tatyana! This is a feel good bop for sure and it definitely makes you feel happy listening to it!

Yay! Tatyana is back! Some of you may recognise her from 2019, where she sang with Denberel. She has come back with such a banger! It feels modern, contemporary, fresh and international. I love the traditional elements in the song also! It is the full package!
Team Russia has been very smart this year! Releasing the English version of the song will help fans understand the meaning, and now releasing a very high quality music video.

The performance and music video is 100% something that a kid will vote for. This song has been continually growing on me, and I feel Russia is a contender for a potential win!

I LOVE IT! Finally a ‘kids’ song that I actually like ahaha. She reminds me of me! The clothing style, hair, eyes etc. She also has such good lyrics and voice! I like it :)

It’s very modern and contemporary as well! Such a bop!

Average Score: 8.6
